What is the Order of the Thistle?

The Order of the Thistle is coming back to Massachusetts this January! By now it may have attracted your curiosity, and you may be wondering what the Order of the Thistle is. The Order of the Thistle is one of the three most exalted orders of chivalry in the United Kingdom. It is among the ranks of the Order of the Garter in England, and the Order of St. Patrick in Ireland.

The most ancient and most noble “Order of the Thistle” is the second oldest of these founded in 1687 by King James VII of Scotland.  The modern interpretation of the order presented locally every odd year is an evening of fun, fellowship and frivolity among fellow Freemasons.  It is not a Lodge meeting, nor is it an awarding of the original Order of the Thistle.

Membership is open to any Master Mason in good standing.  It matters not if one has attained the title of Knight Templar, Sovereign Grand Inspector General or any other position in Masonry or its affiliated orders.

Its purpose is to have fun while supporting the Children’s Dyslexia Centers in Massachusetts and the Grand Almoner’s fund, both sponsored by the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.

Come and join in a period of fellowship as well as the presentation of the Haggis, and then settle into your seat for a very entertaining presentation of The Order Of The Thistle! This fantastic event will be held on January 31, 2017, at the Needham Masonic Hall. The Reception starts at 6:30PM, dinner at 7:15PM and the Conferral will commence at 8:00PM!
